The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) of Florida held its Orlando Kidney Walk on Sunday, April 23 at Harbor Park in Central Florida’s Lake Baldwin neighborhood. The annual kidney walk is an important fundraiser for kidney care and helps unite the community together, as well as raises awareness about chronic kidney disease (CKD) to the public. Kidney walks also are an inspirational experience for those battling CKD and their loved ones.

Stakeholders from within the kidney community, including local health groups, attended the walk and Renal Care 360° was excited to participate for the first time and join the fight. Teams and individual participants met at 8:30 a.m. and held stretches, heard a few speakers, and sang the national anthem before hitting the trail. Teams came decked out in their own t-shirts and really put their best effort into the walk. The walk ended with a DJ spinning music and attendees enjoyed free snacks and beverages.

All-in-all the Orlando Kidney Walk raised $58,000 for kidney care. Local restaurants in the area also donated tip jar proceeds to the cause after the event ended. Around 150 to 200 people attended the walk, showing the power a passionate group can make in the fight against kidney disease. Kidney disease is widely under-recognized in the United States. According to the NKF, CKD affects an estimated 37 million people in the U.S. Kidney disease is a leading cause of death in the U.S.A. and 90 percent of those impacted may not know they have CKD.

There are numerous risk factors for CKD including diabetes, high blood pressure, family history of kidney failure, obesity, heart disease, and more. Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) are also a factor. Renal Care 360° works with health systems, physician groups, and uses local outreach to make a difference in patient outcomes. Awareness is an important part of transforming kidney care.

If you want to get involved and help make a difference yourself, the National Kidney Foundation is a great resource and can be found in most states. Kidney walks organized by the foundation can be found at kidneywalk.org and are free to attend. Those who cannot attend in-person can also participate from home and still donate to the cause. You can also sign-up to be an advocate, volunteer, and partner with the nonprofit.

Nashville, TN – New Renality is thrilled to announce the opening of New Renality Newnan Home Services in Newnan, GA. This is the first of several New Renality facilities planned for 2019. The New Renality facility in Newnan is located at 2680 E Hwy 34 Suite B, Newnan, GA 30265.

Gwyneth Taylor, RN, CNN, New Renality Vice President of Clinical Operations, is opening the Newnan facility with a team of seasoned and experienced renal care professionals.

“Gwen has assembled an excellent multi-disciplinary team.” remarked Brenda Lepley, COO. “Each team member has an outstanding reputation for dedicated patient care and excellent outcomes.”

New Renality is pleased to acknowledge the innovative vision of Medical Director, Dr. Waseem Ahmed, MD. Dr. Ahmed and the New Renality team is looking forward to introducing the Newnan renal community to cutting edge technologies with the goal to deliver quality coordinated patient care while realizing significant healthcare cost savings.

Dr Ahmed stated, “By offering the patient both a physical and digital experience, the New Renality team will enhance their lives and their care. In addition, New Renality is committed to developing an integrated renal model that improves the quality of life of patients by slowing the progression of renal disease, reducing the burden of health care cost by avoiding unnecessary hospitalization and promoting alternative home services as their delivery system of choice.”

It is no coincidence that the first New Renality facility is focused on home renal therapies. New Renality is committed to partnering with patients and providing quality care based on proven practices while introducing technologies to free them from the traditional in-clinic experience. With the support of telemedicine, and other technologies readily available, yet seldom used in renal care settings, New Renality patients will be encouraged and empowered to dialyze at home. The home first approach, with enhanced technology solutions, allows New Renality patients to manage their condition and focus on an improved quality of life.

“With the new and emerging technologies, I see a real opportunity to improve patient quality of life by slowing the progression of the disease while reducing overall cost.” said Joe Cashia, Founder and CEO of Renal Care Options, parent company to New Renality.” Newnan will be the first of many facilities in the area that we plan to develop as well as nationwide, both in traditional as well as nontraditional sites utilizing the expertise of the entire health care team.  We see kidney disease differently and seek non-traditional solutions to the complex problems that it presents. In short, we plan to change the way renal care is delivered.”

“We are also very pleased to have completed the opening of this dialysis clinic in record time as New Renality has recently chosen National Dialysis Accreditation Commission as its corporate provider for dialysis accreditation” continued Cashia.  “Using NDAC’s accreditation service allows our clinics to obtain Medicare certification quickly and efficiently so that we are able to admit and treat patients and serve the local medical community in a much faster manner that was not previously possible.  We are proud to be one of the first dialysis providers in Georgia to adopt this process innovation for fast access to care.”

About New Renality

New Renality is a chronic and acute kidney disease management provider giving patients a better quality of life and reducing healthcare costs through innovative technologies, partnerships with local health care professionals and in-home therapy as a first option.

About National Dialysis Accreditation Commission

National Dialysis Accreditation Commission is the leading dialysis Accreditation Organization (AO) in the U.S. and was the first dialysis AO to receive deeming authority for Medicare Certification from The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

New Renality is proud to be leading the way by implementing many of the proposed changes in the CMS Kidney Care First (KCF) and Comprehensive Kidney Care Contracting (CKCC) models outlined by the Trump administration’s executive order signed July 10, 2019. From the outset, New Renality’s mission has focused on a better approach to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) care, with an emphasis on home dialysis first, leveraging new technologies and data analytics and collaborative care for early intervention.

Currently, CMS and commercial payors focus the majority of ESRD reimbursement on dialysis treatment delivered in brick and mortar centers. New Renality has a different approach, focusing on slowing the progression of the chronic kidney disease by treating patients with compromised kidney function before they reach ESRD. New Renality achieves this through kidney disease education and empowering patients to dialyze at home using state of the art technologies.

The new CMS plan outlined by the administration shifts incentives from clinic-based dialysis to an emphasis on keeping patients off dialysis longer, use of home dialysis options, investments in Telehealth technologies, and kidney disease education.

When asked why New Renality started a kidney care program knowing the government reimbursement rules, at the time, would mean less revenue to the business, Joe Cashia, Founder and CEO stated, “We just knew it was the right thing for the patients. Our plan to shake up how chronic kidney disease is managed means healthier patients with a better quality of life and healthier patients translate to less cost for care.” Joe went on to say, “The President’s announcement Wednesday validates everything we, at New Renality, have been promoting for the last year.”
